Homemade Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients:

12 oz mozzarella cheese sticks

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Marinara sauce (for dipping, optional)

 

Directions:

Prepare the Cheese:

Cut each mozzarella cheese stick in half if desired. Place them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Set Up the Breading Station:

In a shallow bowl, place the flour.

In a second shallow bowl, beat the eggs.

In a third shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.

Bread the Cheese:

Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.

Dip into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off.

Coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

For extra crispy sticks, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating.

Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:

Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Serve:

Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
