These Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes are a crowd-pleaser!
Ingredients:
6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 onion, finely chopped
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent.
Stir in the flour and cook for about a minute until well combined with the butter and onions.
Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook and stir until the sauce thickens and starts to simmer.
Add 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese to the sauce, reserving 1 cup for later. Stir until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
Season the sauce with salt and black pepper, adjusting to your taste preference.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, making sure to cover them evenly.
Add the remaining sliced potatoes as the second layer and pour the rest of the cheese sauce over them.
Sprinkle the reserved cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the potatoes, creating a delicious golden crust.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
Let the scalloped potatoes rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
