**Ingredients:**
– 2 slices of your favorite bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough work well)
– 2-3 slices of cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
– 1-2 tablespoons butter (softened)
– Optional add-ins: sliced tomatoes, crispy bacon, caramelized onions, or sliced avocado
**Instructions:**
- Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-low heat.
- Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet.
- Quickly add your cheese slices (and any optional add-ins you like) on top of the bread in the skillet.
- Place the second slice of bread, butter-side up, on top of the cheese and ingredients.
- Cook the sandwich for a few minutes on each side, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. You can use a spatula to press the sandwich down gently for even melting.
- Once both sides are golden and the cheese is gooey, remove the grilled cheese sandwich from the skillet.
- Let it cool for a minute, then slice it diagonally if you like, and serve immediately.
