Ingredients:

 

2 to 3 ripe bananas (about 1 1/2 cups when mashed)

2 teaspoons lemon juice

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

3 large eggs

1 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups buttermilk (or substitute by mixing 1 tbsp of white vinegar or lemon juice with enough milk to make 1 1/2 cups, then let stand for 5 minutes)

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate, as per preference)

 

Instructions:

 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.

Banana Mashing: In a small bowl, mash the bananas with the lemon juice, and set aside.

Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Creaming Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the butter, oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Adding Eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Alternate Additions: Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk until just combined.

Bananas & Chocolate Chips: Fold in the mashed bananas, and then fold in the chocolate chips.

Pour & Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
