For the Bread:

1 cup butter, softened

2 cups granulated sugar

2 eggs

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 cups buttermilk

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture:

2/3 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

PREPARATION:

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9×5-inch loaf pans.

2.In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 2 cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

3.Add the eggs to the butter-sugar mixture, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

4.In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda.

5.Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar-egg mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.

6.In a small bowl, mix together the 2/3 cup granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon to create the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

7.Pour a small amount of the bread batter into the greased loaf pans, spreading it out evenly.

8.Sprinkle a generous layer of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter in each pan.

9.Pour the remaining bread batter evenly over the cinnamon-sugar layer.

10.Top the batter with another layer of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

11.Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the batter to create a marbled effect.

12.Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

13.Allow the bread to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

14.Slice and enjoy your delicious Amish Cinnamon Bread!
